Abby's Summer Travels
So....
I am now in London and so far it is fabulous!!! (Apparently this is what they call phase 1 culture shock though and later I will go through another stage and get frustrated with things etc.....anyway) My roomates are cool. So far we all get along which is good. I havent met everyone in the program yet buy the people I have met are cool.
We arrived on Monday at about 1 or 2 ish and we were the last people to arrive.
We live in a place called Kensington House off of Cromwell Road in the area of Kengsinton/South Kensinton. I am in Flat 1 and it is in floor 1 and a half yes not floor 1 or floor 2 but 1 and 1/2 so no one know where it is but it is nice and we have plenty of space(surprisingly).
I was sooo tired the first night I went to bed at 8:30ish and slept until about 8am the next day but that is not unusual because I sleep that much at home too....
We went to a store called Arogs and it is Awesome! It is way better than WalMart. It is a catalog store and they have a catalog like the size of the JC Penny catalog and they have just about anthing you want minus grocery stuff and toiletry stuff. All you do is go into the store and go to the first counter and look in the catalog and find the item you want, grab a slip and write the catalog # , then you pay for the item and lastly you take your recipt to the 3rd counter and they retrive the item for you in back the whole process only took about 5 minutes because I knew what I want! It was pretty cool.
The grocery store is soo close which is great. It is called Sainsbury and it is cool and you have to bag your own groceries (this was a bit weird at first). The pharmacy here is called Boots.
We already went to Harrods, and took a city tour via bus.... We saw Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Westminester Abbey, Big Ben, St Paul's Catherdral and much more.......
Wednesday-
We had our internship orientation and a celebration dinner at a piano bar on Kensington High Street called Sopranos. I think that was the first decent meal I have had all week. I think my appetite is off because I am not too hungry and forget to eat at regular times. Can an appetite get jet lag??
We left the piano bar and it was pouring!! I forgot my umbrella (smart on my part). So me and some of the other girls walked to the nearest tube and went home. That night I prepared for my intership interview.
Thurs.--
Me and 2 other girls are working at King's College Hospital so we can commute together every day. We left really early today because we had no idea where we were going but we go there pretty easily. We took 2 different tubes and then caught a train out to the hospital. I think the total time was about 45 min. Rachel my roommate it took her about 1.5 hrs. so I feel lucky.
Oh... While I was leaving the hospital to go home I saw a car w/ Hill Rom on it isnt that Batesville?? Wow what a small world.
Later after the interview a group of us went to Abbey Road! :) I have been there before but it was fun to see it again. Really it sounds exciting if you are a Beatles fan but really it is just a cross walk and I think that no one in London really cares because it is a really busy road.
The we went to Oxford St. to SHOP one of my favorite things. It was insanely crowded. So many people are rude too but you just have to ignore it and focus on what you are doing becauseeople get annoyed if you dally around and get their way.
Tonight I think a group of us are going to a pub to watch a football(soccer) game. Should be fun.
Tomorrow is the first day of class too....
Let you know how it goes later....
