The journey to Ica was thankfully ok, probably because we went with the slightly more expensive company Cruz del Sur (more space and nice food!) We arrived in Ica yesterday at 5am to a dark, deserted bus station and managed to find a cafe were we stayed for a couple of hours ( a cup of tea was 20p!) Jem had a look round, discovered that it wasn´t actually a very nice place, so we decided to get a taxi to Huacachina, 5km west of Ica.
The small town of Huacachina is an oasis surrounded by massive sand dunes and nestled next to a picturesque lagoon (on the back of Peru´s S/50 note). It´s a weird place were most people come to sandboard. We just wanted to see it and have some brekkie as neither of us wanted to break our neck sandboarding!
We then visited three of the nearby wineries, including Peru´s largest - Vista Alegre. It was good to see and the Pisco was great but the wine was pretty awful - Oooooo I´m looking forward to a nice glass of cold Chardonnay when I come home!!
After our wine visits, and feeling a bit tipsy, we caught our last bus in this year long trip to Lima. We checked into the Flying Dog Hostal, Miraflores (nicest part of Lima).
We fly to Madrid on Wednesday so we´ve got a few days to see the sights of Lima.
See you all very soon xxxxxx
