"On the road again"...........
After the last goup of people, the next group had big shoes to fill, this was always going to be setting myself up for disapointment. The driver Jason was ex army with very little people skills and Two Rules: Rule One; last one on the bus shut the door and Rule 2; When he's on the mic, shut the hell up! Charming. A far cry from Will's Too Easy tour. When the first rules was disobeyed by a family of Spaniards who didn't speak much english and didn't know about rule number one or two, he got in a stress and didn't speak to us for two hours......... more on him in a moment.
Now the people.... The last group had been so successful, we think, due to the collection of individuals travelling alone. Dave and I were the only exception, but are so independent it was ok. This bus was a collection of smaller groups with only a few lone travellers. I quickly foumd a friend in the very lovely Marion, a hospitalty EXPERT from Holland, who was equally stunned by Jasons aparent lack of people skills, things were looking up!
After traveling through the wine region of the Clare Valley we arrived at Quorn our hostel for hte next two nights. We dropped off our belongings and went for a walk. This walk was The Dutchmans Stern. Aparently the mountain looks like the front of a boat called the Dutchman. The walk was long, up and hot again, but true to form was beautiful from the top. And that was Day One. People were now beginning to talk to each other and turns out that Marion is very lovely so I was immediately happy. The biggest surprise was that Jason was actually a great guy, was just having a bad day! Beware of first impressions.
