I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move.
~Robert Louis Stevenson
When you're traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.
~William Least Heat Moon
My journey has come full circle...
Im writing this last blog (maybe not the last one, I still have to tell you about Barcelona) from the computer in my hostel (Archi Rossi). The same hostel I stayed at when I first got to Florence, I know how sappy....but I thought it would be a nice way to end my summer under the sun.
We had to move out of the apartment on Alfani yesterday by noon, and Lauren and I came here for the night.Lauren left this morning at 4am to catch her flight home, but I dont leave till tommorrow at 5am. Its bittersweet to leave Italy.
I thought this day would be filled with anxiety, knowing I would be leaving in the morning...but I found myself roaming the streets of Florence wishing to stay just a little longer. I went to the open market and bought some gifts, and then walked down to one of my favorite cafès. The owners knows me, and gave me a coffee for free...they actually remebered that I was leaving tomorrow. Thats the kind of stuff Im going to miss about Italy....the people.
I could never have imagined the life changing experience this was going to be...I made friends for a lifetime, years of memories, and met some amazing people along the journey. The world is so much bigger than I ever could have imagined.
This trip taught me many things about life, but one big lesson was that if youre ever unhappy about your life, change it! The world is too big and too great to ever be unhappy. Meet new people, try different foods, understand other cultures, learn a language, be happy with the unknown, take a train to any destination, stay in a hostel, take pictures, be patient, laugh all the time especially when things are going very wrong, pack light LOL, see as much as you can, love art, and take in the different types of music....
My little advice to anyone who want to travel: if you expect everything to go as planned, then what is the fun on travelling?! Learn to love the unplanned, last minutes, fly by the seat of your pants decisions....thats travel.
I have had the summer of a lifetime, and it was all because of the wonderful friends and memories I made. I cant believe I spent the summer traveling around Europe! I will forever cherish these memories....
A big huge thank you to my parents and grandparents who supported my trip, I would be lost without you guys! I love you very much! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Ill be home soon!!
