We leave St Petersburg in bright sunshine, although it is pretty cool. Doing battle with the moring rush hour traffic is a challenge but soon we are on the M10 heading towards Moscow. This not a motorway but mainly a three lane highway with passing places. The road is stuffed with lorries and we make good progress on our 550 mile journey to Moscow. The landscape is pretty flat and we encounter many villages and towns on the way. We call in at a lovely transport cafe clean modern and great food. One advantage of riding in Russia is that petrol is only about 50p a litre but most places only take cash the lovely Russian rubbles! As we approach Moscow in the late afternoon the five lanes of traffic present us with some challenges but we manage to stick together as a group with a lot of weaving in and out oF the traffic. Finally we arrive at our hotel in the suburbs of Moscow - perhaps more like an hostel. Steve Garry, Nick and myself are in one room together which is pretty cramped. We lock the bikes up and have a lovely evening meal together in a restaurant in a shopping mall about two miles away. I sample my first Moscow mule - ginger ale, vodka and mint, quite refreshing after a couple of beers. Finally to bed at about midnight and looking forward to a day off exploring Moscow tomorrow.
