I often have to pinch myself to realise that things I am doing are real. I guess most in the Western world have never been to Kazakhstan. Well for me it is real and I am here at the moment. Not only here but riding a motorbike across one of its deserts. How fortunate is that. Since I started biking 8 years ago, I have seen so much of the world.
Our today's journey takes us from Uralsk south to Atyrau through a desert for most of the way. Our speed was very sedate though as there were police cars everywhere, keen to stop anybody going over the limit. Nick got stopped by the police today but was let off.
The desert road was good for most of the way but the odd potholes or scabbled out bits I think were put there to keep you awake. Lots of widlife -camels, horses cattle goats were all seen along the way and a couple of times stopped in our tracks. Goodness knows what they feed on as the ground was parched.
So nice easy ride with a couple of garage stops - locals were generally interested in us and our bikes and took photos where they could.
A very hot day getting up to 33 degrees a far cry from the freezing weather at Nordkapp ten days ok.
We have 500 mile transit day tomorrow and a border crossing into Uzbekistan, so an early start and must get some sleep.
