I am now in Zurich, staying with Carson! It has been overcast and cold thus far, a vast difference from my experience in Italy, and a problem considering the summer attire in my luggage.
Carson has been my tour guide around the city, taking me to each of the notable churches: Grossmunster, Fraumunster and St. Peter's. The churches are not as ornate as those that I saw in Croatia and Italy, but the stained glass is remarkable. I saw both Lake Zurich and Limmat River. Carson's favorite part of the city, Bahnhofstrasse (Zurich's shopping avenue) was visited in length. Parade-Platz, Zurich's financial center, was visited as well.
For lunch, I insisted that we have fondue. We got two different kinds - tomato as well as ham and mushroom. Soooo good! I was ready for a nap afterward. Instead, I settled for some Swiss chocolate! Then, it was time to play a fun little game which involves avoiding all eye contact with the tram and bus drivers to evade actually paying for my public transportation. If I get caught, I'll just play the young, stupid American card. I'm sure they've never experienced that before…
