Finishing Up
Sorry that I haven't downloaded a lot of photos recently, but I just put up a bunch today. I have just about a week left in Australia. I can't believe I've been here 4 months and it's time to go. I have had an amazing time, and the time has gone by so quickly for me. Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my awesome traveling companion, Christian, after traveling with him for over 2 1/2 months. So sad! But, I hope to meet up with him again hopefully sometime soon. It was so great to have someone to travel with me and accompany me on tours. I will really miss traveling with him! Here's a description of what I've done in the past few weeks:
Agnes Waters
This is a small seaside town on the East Coast and it is definitely off the beaten path. There weren't many tourists there and everything was very laid back and chill. Christian and I took surfing lessons one day while we were there. The lessons were only $17...what a deal! I actually stood up on the board a few times. The instructor was in a really tight wetsuit and had on a speedo over his suit. It was hilarious. He was really nice though and would help us by pushing us into the wave. Christian and I also went on a choppa (like motorcycles but more basic) tour around Agnes. It was great. We saw wallabies and a nice sunset while zooming through the surrounding hills. We had such a great time there and it was one of my very favorite spots in Australia.
Airlie Beach & Whitsundays
We took a 2 night 3 day boat tour on the Whitsunday Islands, which are a string of beautiful islands located just outside of the town of Airlie Beach in the state of Queensland. The Irish girls that we've seen throughout the East Coast were on the same boat so we already had some friends on the tour. There were about 26 people on the small boat and the quarters were really tight down underneath the boat. Everyone was packed down in the boat but some decided to sleep on the deck of the boat. However, it rained in the middle of the night and they had to retreat quickly! I tried scuba diving for the first time on the intro dive that I did. It was really interesting feeling to go down into the water and see all the coral and fish. I had a good time on the boat, but I was ready to get off after 2 nights on it! I still felt the rocking of the boat several days after the tour ended.
Townsville
Christian and I met a German guy on the Whitsunday boat who told us of a friend he met in Townsville. Without knowing us at all, this friend picked us up from the bus station and kindly offered us a place to stay at his beautiful home during our stay in Townsville. Townsville was our last stop together before Christian headed off to Sydney to meet back up with his Austrian friends to go to Thailand for a few weeks before heading home to Austria. I leave Australia March 13 for New Zealand, where I'll be for about 2 months. I'm lucky to have a friend living in Auckland, NZ who is going to pick me up from the airport when I arrive. Anyway, in Townsville we went to the enclosed beach for an afternoon. The beach is enclosed because of the jellyfish and sharks. Steve's friend Ron kindly offered us a trip to Magnetic Island, which is located just outside of Townsville. Ron took us on his sailing boat and we stayed one night on this beautiful island in Ron's place there. His place is basically just a garage with beds. It was very basic and very peaceful. It took us about 3 hours to get to Magnetic Island from Townsville which was longer than normal because the wind wasn't really blowing that hard. Ron would scream, "Come on Hugh" in a plea for more wind. Apparently, Australians nickname God as Hugh for some reason. I had a great time.
Cairns
I'm in Cairns at the moment which is high up on the east coast. I'm only here for a few nights, but this is one of the best spots to go out on the reef. I'm planning on doing some snorkeling tomorrow on the reef. It's really hot and humid here and reminds me on TN summers! I head to the center of Australia to see Uluru, the big red rock that Australia is known for, on March 7th. 'll be over there for just a few nights before heading back to Syndey and then to New Zealand.
Hope everyone is well. Take care and much love.

Expiry date is how they say expiration date.
They say get crooked for someone who is sick.
Instead of you all they say yous.
