NACHOS!!!!!!! For breakfast.
After breakfast we met up with Abbie, Gabby and Gina, our tour guides, then we walked to Ticalli where we met some Mexican guides. We were trying to overcome the language barrier when I received a gift from one of them. This was a hat (sombrero). In return I gave her a centenary bucket hat that Claire provided me with. The girl that gave me the hat was called Regina and we spent quite a bit trying to understand one another. Luckly, Holly from the Anglia group can speak some Spanish with was very helpful.
Then we went round the cathedral which was quite an experience. We got to look at the bells and in total there are 35. One of the bells had to be turned 360° in order for it to ring and unfortunately in the late 1800's, it hit someone in the back of the head so the priest decided that the bell should be punished. So it got silenced until it was forgiven in 2000. Our tour guide for the cathedral was very enthusiastic and he had a lot of interesting things to show us.
After lunch, we got on the city tour bus which drove us round. We saw many famous buildings an statues as well as financial and retail districts.
An interesting fact that I learnt today was that Mexico city is built on a lake, and because of falling water levels, it sinks almost an inch each year.
I have had a very enjoyable day.
