Finally... a beach day!
It was clear and sunny and warm... although also quite windy.
We lay on Dolphin Beach for a few hours... watched practiced surfers and people just learning to surf... and both got a little sunburnt.
Our car guard at the beach washed the rental car without being asked... and then John got to negotiate how much to pay him. Although he didn't do a bad job, which is impressive considering that there was no running water.
The wind and blowing sand got to be too much for us and we headed back to the B&B. After showering, we read on the back deck for a while (much less windy!) looking over the canal and our hostess brought us carrot cake. There's something to be said for Africaans hospitality!
Dinner was on the beach again at a place called Tapas Lapa, which didn't actually serve tapas. It was another place with a sand floor and there was a power outage just as we got there.
We ate local fish and Greek salad... and were certainly served lots of it!
The power was still out when we got back to the B&B and we read by candlelight and my little book light before joining our hosts for some wine. B&B owners all seem to be a similar breed, and these people were no exception. Friendly and a little odd. But the wine was certainly good...
And St. Patrick's Day slipped by without us having any green beer! Although, to be fair, I rarely knew what date or even day of the week it was while we were on this trip... I think that's one of the best parts about vacations!
