Apologies for my lack of 'bloggage' people, the other two internet fiends have been hogging the airtime!
Well, we are now at the end of our stay in the south island and I must say that we have all had a fantastic time and are slightly saddened to be leaving for the bright lights of Auckland. I think it is fair to say that we have all enjoyed somewhat isolated in the wilderness, a far cry from what we are going to get for the Scotland game! Still, im sure that a massive win over the kilt wearers will help matters!
We finished our time on the south island in Franz Josef, ice climbing on the Fox Glazier…From this amazing experience we have learned 3 things. 1) It takes Rexy a few attempts to get the 'belaying' technique down. (this involves controlling the descent of your climbing partner and making sure if he falls that he doesn't actually hit the ground. In other words you pretty much have your partner's life in your own hands!) Considering that trust is a major factor when you start climbing, this is something that Rexy's partner Tim struggled with! I on the other hand had a Japanese partner who spoke broken English… again, not ideal! Still all issues were shortly over come and we all completed several climbs in one piece. 2) Tim is scared of heights and gets quite annoyed when his 'crampons are not working properly' 3) I look and climb like Sly Stallone in Cliff Hanger (videos to follow)
Right im going to call this blog a day as we are driving the west coast and I'm missing some spectacular views!
Hope is well back in sunny England (yes we know it is like 29c!)
Love to all,
Woody x
