Got to Phuket about lunch time and after much faffing about by the pier staff they got us our transfer to the main centre of Phuket town. We didn't have anything booked but decided to go with one of the options from our trusty Lonely Planet guide. Staying at the Thavron Hotel, not very clean or modern but fingers crossed we won't see any cockroaches. Went straight out for lunch and then got a tuk-tuk to a big shopping centre. You will all be surprised to know that we didn't go mad at all in the shops. We turning into proper bargain hunters and are waiting til we get back to the very cheap markets in Bangkok! Came back and booked an elephant trekking trip for the next day. Went out for tea and then fancied going for a few drinks but couldn't find any bars around where we were staying! Saw a couple of seedy looking clubs that had blacked out windows but decided to give them a miss!! So came back and got an early night, very rock and roll :-)
The next day we did our elephant trekking. Was a really great experience although was a bit sad at the beginning when they were getting the three youngest elephants to do tricks. But they were born in captivity so know no different and are very clever animals so need something to do to keep them occupied. Our trek lasted about 30 to 40 minutes and our elephant seemed very hungry as she was stopping every few metres to get leaves! When we got back we bought a basket of fruit to feed our elephant. Wow was she a fast eater!!!!! We thought we ate fast but don't think the fruit touched the sides with her!
In the afternoon we had another stroll around and then sat out in the sun for about 40 minutes but was so sweltering hot we had to come back as we were dripping with sweat. Not very attractive!! Going on to one of the beach resorts in Phuket tomorrow so will probably have a few lazy days by the pool/beach. Man this travelling life is really hard you know ;-)
