Well, the Scottish country side is starting to redeem itself. More trees means more birds, not many more, but more.
One of these birds is the Grouse. Apparently the Grouse is a nice bird. Nice to eat that is, as on the 12th August or about each year, they start to try to exterminate the species. The deer are also great sport in the highlands and are a real earner for the local Lord of the Manor.
Some of the small villages on the Isle of Skye and to the South are quite livable. In my opinion that is! The Port of Appin I thought particularly attractive. We stayed in this locale for two nights in a very pleasant B & B at 50 pound for a night. A nice room, a rather hard bed, and a great Scottish breakfast. The landlords appeared to be nice people. The afore mentioned qualities are usually a constant in your typical small privately owned B & B. Standards generally drop the bigger the place gets.
We also managed to arrange our "Green card" insurance as it is called in Europe. This is third party insurance, and is essential when temporarily importing a vehicle into the EU (or any country for that matter) as Customs won't clear your vehicle from the dock until you have it. They won’t sell it to you in the UK so we had to buy it from a guy in Germany. The company in Germany is called Knopf Tours (there are others), and you shell out 141 Euro/month (for those who need to know) for the privilege of driving with cover. This is another process that is unnecessarily stressful, but it didn’t cause us as much grief as it did trying to track this type of insurance down when we landed in Canada. We must be becoming more seasoned as travelers!
