Colombia Day here today. But nothing to celebrate from our/my end though.
Since heading south from the Carribean Coast I have had some unwelcome travelling companions with me, well more to the point, in me.
You see, I have picked up some Amoebic friends that have, and still are lunching on my intestine. This they do very well. So well in fact that I have been hospitalized for various amounts of time at different truckstop clinics on no less than three separate occasions.
Whilst ât these stops they have been connecting me to an IV to give me the energy to drive a bit further to a bigger hospital at which we have arrived.
In total eight/nine days with the little p**** eating as if there is no tomorrow. And me making conditions suitable for them by having constant dysentery for those nine days.
We are both presently sharing a hospital room in the above mentioned town as they try to kill these little *******s. Into the third day of an assault on the enemy that has no apparent end date, but can at least sit up long enough to put finger to keyboard.
Gael has managed to stay fit and healthy thank Christ. Without her inner and physical strength to this point, I could well be but a permanent stain on a bedsheet. She is totally out of her depth in language skills but has still managed to find me treatment however small the roadside truck stop might be.
All these events have shown me how vulnerable we really are. The people here are great, but the language barrier is too great when it goes pear shaped and you need urgent help.
At this stage I am not prepared to put Gael's health (and mine) at further risk. If Gael were to get sick I would struggle to look after her, and that is not good enough!
We are (when I have the strength) going to make our way back to the port that we shipped into Colombia.
From there we look at our options. If we have to, we will ship home. If we can, our preference would be to ship perhaps to Canada. We will have to see what can be arranged.

jill The 'taties' look good but don't eat that white stuff!???????
Wendy Mackay No good. Hope you recover quickly.
Foster Get the hell out of there and to somewhere where you can be treated. Then home ASAP. We have more beer drinking and yarns to tell. Huonville is looking very good to me! Gael is a tower of strength! Thanks for keeping us back here in Australia updated. Thinking of you both.
Ken & Eva Get well quick and come back to Melbourne to live! You know that you are safe here and there is good medical assistance and good friends - like us!
mrsd68 Rob so sad to see this :( you must be so sick for it to keep you down. Upsets me greatly. Get home safe. We all love you both very much. Gael you are such an amazing woman xxxxxx
Troy It was good to hear from you both on Monday .. even if Dad was just a groan in the background. I was a little concerned after the phone call from Jo on Sunday. Not sure if you got it but I sent you a text message yesterday after noticing you tried to call me again on Tuesday. Hopefully the antibiotics are working and you are on the improve. Keep us up to date xx
