We started our day by going on a walking tour with Evelyn, seeing many 16th century sites, including a hospital that now serves as a breading ground for parrots. They continue to feed us large meals 3 times a day, all of us concerned with how hard we'll have to keep to not gain weight on this trip.
The afternoon brought many lessons for us....how to drive in a country without stop lights and signs that say PARE (which is interpreted locally as slow down). We learned about microfinancing and how it takes 4 years for the people of the Dominican to build a house that cost around $8000 -- and how that home can bring such joy to a family with the basics of security and pride in their home. We learned how a group of primary school boys can be intriquired by a group of Americans and willing to join a photo with us (included).
This evening we were each able to learn how to make Mo Fonda while dancing a salsa with a cowboy hat on. Paul learned the intricacies of what it takes to be a good executive sponsor, and Taylor learned that his luck continues into day two as he has the ability to shut off TVs and break beds without even trying!
Finally, we all learned we have a great team and are all ready to hit it hard tomorrow!
