As this was Graham's last day with us before he returned to Thailand, we as a group wanted to spend the final day altogether and what better way than to visit the infamous Raffles Long Bar for the world famous cocktail a Singapore Sling. What a surprise this time it wasn't Diane first with her hand in the bag of nuts it was Shane. This is the only place in Singapore that litter can be thrown on the floor and the tradition is to eat monkey nuts and throw the shells on the floor. Ok so we all had to go one step further and stamp on them. Harsh but fair. We ordered 10 drinks but they miscounted and gave us 11, oh dear how sad, we had to share the extra one.
It was a little humid on leaving Raffles and a water fountain was found in their quadrant, so being adults again, lots of water got splashed about so we didn't leave looking as neat as we arrived, we all left a little moist.
Taxis allocated along with kitty money, the remaining three people for the last taxi (Shane, Jackie & Rose) waited outside Raffles for another taxi. A man in a black car beckoned us twice and we dismissed him but then he drew nearer to us and that he was a taxi. OMG BIG BLACK BENTLEY !!! full of drinks, magazines and sweeties - how could we resist. We had grins from ear to ear, especially pulling up in the hotel and everyone else watching us. POSH or what ????
All got changed into beach wear and met Luba at 1 as this was also her last day with us as well. We walked across to the Vivo centre all armed with hotel towels and got the monorail to Palawan Beach on Sentosa Island.
We all descended through the Bora Bora bar onto the beach, dumping our stuff on various chairs and tables and headed into the sea. Some of us were intending to just paddle, oh how wrong we were. The peace and quiet was shattered when Shane decided to rugby tackle Jackie into the sea, which led to everyone else getting dunked and splashed. 9 adults quickly turned into kids on their first outing to the sea, getting very giddy and moist, where is there an appropriate adult when one is needed?
We reserved a table for dinner and some of us went in a little damp, nearly every item on the menu was sold out so lots of thinking had to be done to just what we could have, but not too disastrous as they still had beer, would be rude not to of partaken a pint .
After another swim, we made our way to the rope bridge, which leads to the most southerly point in Asia. Whilst trying to walk across the bridge, people thought it would be funny to sway it at the same time making it more difficult to cross. We did however, have our own troll following us trip tropping across the bridge (Sorry Jax, Harsh but fair).
Headed back to the monorail and proceeded back to the hotel to get ready for our last group evening before Graham and Luba were leaving us. The theme for tonight was "BEIGE", all met in reception, some of us more beige than others ready to head out for a sophisticated evening meal. We then all congregated in the hotel bar to show our appreciation to Shane on being our outstanding Sensei as we had all joined together to buy him some memorable gifts.
Found a very swish restaurant in the Vivo centre called the Crystal Jade where we had a Chinese meal on a large spinny table, not big not clever - but funny when it comes to us having a spinny table. We were missing one person tonight as Gary was meeting up with one of his friends, but he said he wouldn't be long and would try to find us. You can't lose 10 people that easily. A couple of hours into the meal Gary eventually found us and he was slightly fresh as he'd had no food but a few drinks with his friends. This is where the serious business comes in:- Gary was due to take his Shodan grading in December but after demonstrating his attitude and spirit in the Seminar, Sensei Riley and Sensei Derrick decided that his Shodan should be awarded in a no better fitting place than Singapore. Gary's reaction was one of shock and numbness but the pride on his face was outstanding. Well done SUG, Thumbs Up to The ROCK !!!!!!
We decided on our last night to try some new bars, these were across the bridge near the harbour. To get there we had to walk up stairs and proceed to the exit door - Shane found the door handle laid on the floor, so put it back in place and tried to push/pull the door, oops this didn't work and the door wasn't moving, so he took the handle back off, threw it on the floor and kicked it. All this being watched by a little Singaporean lady, who was in fits of giggles and ran away quickly. We found the bars and sadly so did lots of ladies of the night, we looked, we giggled and then walked away and returned to the harbour front for our last panoramic views of Sentosa lit up in all its' splendour. A final drink at the Queen & Mongasteen Bar and then back to the hotel.
All retired to bed, chilled out after the wonderful day and BEIGE evening.
