Today has been a really good day of surfing. We woke up this morning to find that it was very misty; so misty that we couldn't see the beach or the waves. So after Zac came and joined us for some coffee during breakfast we drove down to banana beach again. He said we might go to the beach we intended to surf at the day before, seeing as the waves were smaller, but after checking out the waves at banana and just passed devils rock we figured there's no point driving an hour and a half when it's good here. Therefore today was my first time I got to surf at banana beach.
Zac gave me a lesson today as well. It was so worth it! And banana beach seemed like the perfect spot for it too. There were only two other people in the water besides us and the waves were not too big. Zac explained to me how to to pop up quicker and also how I should stand up straighter. With him giving me a push into the waves made it much easier to catch them and to practice. I'm pleased to say I managed to ride a few nearly all the way in! So definitely happy with the decision to have a lesson! I was a bit nervous about surfing at banana before seeing as there's a lot of stones underneath instead of sand, unlike devils rock. But actually I think banana really is much better. The waves aren't nearly as fast or as many. Devils rock they sometimes seem a bit relentless. Plus today they were breaking too close to the shore. After trying again this afternoon at devils rock again I really could tell the difference. So if we don't go to a different beach tomorrow then I'm gonna stay at banana!
Lunch time we went to a little Moroccan fisherman's restaurant. Zac took us there to try some real Moroccan food. It was a very good call, and as Zac told us there are no menus, you just ask for something. So we had authentic shrimp tagine and lentils with mint tea and if course chips. And for the price of about £3 for everything I think that's pretty fair!
For the afternoon session I stayed with Nelly at devils rock to try and help her. However I think regardless of the fact it's sandy it's still not great to learn and so I went out further to try catch some waves. After struggling to catch many or having to stop because again there are too many people in the way I just rode back in. Banana beach is definitely the one I think! But still I am very happy with today! It was still nice to sit on the beach and watch others surfing in the mist. Now at least we have time to relax in the afternoon sun before dinner in our villa. Not bad I think!
