Blogging whilst on the bus trip to Niagara Falls with Empire Tours. The bus has wi-fi! Amazing as we had no wi-fi in our hotel in midtown New York!
We left hotel in NYC at 6.15am to catch 7am bus for a 2 day tour, accommodation in a hotel tonight in Canada. It didn't take us long before we had left Manhattan behind us and we were in New Jersey. NJ is known as the garden state as it was the agricultural heartland between New York and Philadelphia. It also has the most expensive stadium ever built.....for the NFL for 2 teams. It looked like a modern day colleseum!
The bus trip is 8 hours with stops every 2 hours- breakfast at McDonald's (had oatmeal with fruit), lunch at Lin Buffet in Horseheads, a walk into Watkins Glen gorge and then final stop is Niagara Falls on the Canada side. Most of the trip the scenery is forrest with small towns along the way. The weather has been a sharp contrast to the previous 5 days, today it is raining and overcast. A refreshing change although visibility at times has been poor and down to 100 metres.
We have just passed through Geneva, one of the most beautiful towns in America (according to our guide). Built along the banks of Lake Seneca, it was indeed a picturesque town. It resembled in sections an old English university town, especially the area around Harvard College (a prestigious college in USA) where soaring church steeples, luscious maintained grounds and impressive buildings dominated the environment. Unfortunately we didn't stop so it was not possible to get a photo. It looked like a place that would be worth exploring and visiting at another time.
This photo was taken at Watkins Glen - a typical image of much of the lush green forrest we drove through on our way to Niagara Falls.
