HELLO THAILAND, WE MEET AGAIN!
After a 4 hour bus trip to the border of Cambodia and Thailand, a 5 hour shuttle trip, 2 different train/metro rides and a 45 minute walk in the pouring rain, we finally made it to our hotel in Bangkok AGAIN (this time only as a transit-stop before we head to Malaysia)! We had time for a quick shower and then hurried to meet up with Jake, a friend we met on the truck-trip in Africa. Despite feeling exhausted, it was really nice to see a familiar face and we enjoyed a delicious dinner together at the Cabbages & Condoms restaurant!
We met up again the following day before Jake headed further North and after checking out one of the enormous malls the three of us happily lounged around in a café, abused the free WiFi and then went to see a movie to kill some time before Jake's overnight bus departed. Bye-bye Jakey!
We spent our LAST (really last, this time) day in Bangkok going to see the opulent 3 metre solid-gold Buddha in Wat Traimit (the temple was closed on our previous visit) and then setting off on a mammoth shopping mission in search of some shoes that Joel wanted to get for future water-activities. Unfortunately it ended up being 'mission impossible' and we weren't able to find the right size but we did discover some pretty incredible shopping complexes along the way - our favourite was Terminal 21; an enormous mall designed to look like a giant airport terminal with different themed 'cities' on each floor (Tokyo, Paris, London, Istanbul, etc.) - very trendy and lots to look at!
High: Getting to hang out with Jake in a completely different part of the world!
Low: No more Thai food!
Next Stop: Penang, Malaysia.
