Inhassoro to Zimbabwe
We made an impressive early start. The first 100 km was pretty bad, potholed and some stretches of single
lane. It's a Sunday but there are still loads of heavily laden double trailers heading both ways. As we go further north the countryside becomes more sparsely populated & as we get closer to the Zimbabwe border and travel further inland the countryside changes - it's more hilly, and green. We followed local advice from a family we stopped to offer assistance to and took off along a dirt road to avoid the crossroads town Inchope. Apparently the long haul trucks from Zambia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe have wrecked the roads around this area. A sobering sight along this stretch of road are burnt out wrecks of double trailer unit. We stopped in Chimoio for fuel then headed for the last 100 km to the border. Compared to our entry into Mozambique our exit & subsequent entry into Zimbabwe was uneventful, polite & efficient. Thanks to our early start we made our accommodation Musangano Lodge www.musangano.com
In time to enjoy a spectacular sunset from our deck area.
The lodge is about 25 km from Mutare and well situated about a 1km off the main road. Our chalet was excellent, the service outstanding and the dinner delicious. We would have loved to have stayed longer.
