From Fourwentways to Elveden Forest is a mere hop p, skip and a jump thanks to the widening of the A road leading up to it and a brand new junction minus a set of traffic lights.
As we approached the sign for centre parcs our lady housemate started to fidget in her seat and make sounds as if she was clearing her throat. She stopped short of shouting 'we are here' but we could almost feel her joy. This is, after all, her holiday or rather the one we chose on her behalf knowing that it is her favourite place. The sense that we are just in an ordinary house with ordinary human size beds (rather that the budgie perch sized beds that you find in caravans (even if you are in gold plus accomodation)). Coupled with the absence of cars and the addition of a little shop which is well stocked with stripey jumpers, makes this the perfect holiday destination for Stella.
The have changed the drive in to make it more of a chicane... I suspect to reduce the likelihood of queuing cars on the nice new road. So it wasn't until we approached the 'village centre' that housemate #2 realised where we were.
Now in the reassuringly familiar surroundings we could begin to relax. We had the good sense to book a shopping hamper to be awaiting us in our exclusive 4 bedroom villa with ensuite, daily maid and personal spa with hot tub, so we didn't even need to carry a pint of milk through the village square to our accomodation.
On arrival at our exclusive 4 bed villa .... Blah blah blah .... It was quite obvious to our neighbours that none of us were used to such luxury .... The ooooos ahhhhs and OMG!'s rather gave the game away.
The downstairs footprint is most deffinately larger than our entire home! Mind you the cost of our five day break is the same as a small car, given that we are here during the school holidays and inflated prices we expected value for money and so far I think it is. This is how the other half live! We are in the area of the park called Ash.... All that's missing is the C..... C ASH! And there's lots of it! We have allocated parking in our small car park about 300meters from our accomodation, Vikki had noticed that our car with a 2007 registration was the oldest car in the car park. I had noticed that it was also the cheapest car when new! We are officially holed up in the area which accommodates those families I speak most disparagingly about..... Those families who 'pay through the nose so they don't have to rub shoulders with the riff raff', who bring a shed load of M and S ready made food and an au pair with them so they don't have to engage with their children or dine out but equally don't have catering chores. And what the au pair doesn't see to the maid will clear up in the morning and when she is on her break the kids can amuse themselves in the games room!
