Today started with the 'CNC Machining Technology' class. Most of what we were about to do today during the lecture we've already had in back in Finland. No new topics were going to be explained here today, it would have been just a reminder of previous studies. Then the rest of the semester we will spend in the lab programming and using the CNC machines. This lecture we were saved by the lamp, instead of the bell, because when the lamp of the beamer broke class was dismissed.
The next class didn't start for another five hours so we decided to go play pool off-campus. I don't really know what to say about that, we were just playing pool. But on the way back we went via the supermarket to do some shopping. In the supermarket we found a package of bugs (supposedly eatable) and bought it. I don't know exactly what kind of bugs we were eating, but they were a bit bigger than a wasp, striped, they didn't have their legs anymore and they were brownish. Looks tasty right? Well…
The taste wasn't very special to be honest. It felt like they were fried and salted. In the beginning it tastes salty and then you can feel the actual bug. Still it wasn't very good, but also not bad. I think it is more the idea of eating bugs than the actual taste that is (maybe) special.
Because a few bugs don't really satisfy the hunger, we went for lunch at the university. But we can exactly at a time between lunch and dinner and most of the 62 counters in this restaurant were closed. The only thing that was open was a Chinese fast-food stand. So we ate some kind of tortilla that was made of rice-dough and egg, filled with roasted chicken, bacon and salad. Pretty nice lunch.
After some time at home it was time for the second class of the day. It was supposed to be an 'Engineering Economic Technology' class, but when he asked about our first lecture and found out that it was about CNC, he was mainly talking about that. He is writing an article about it and wanted to tell us all about what he had been researching. So we basically did two classes at once.
In the evening was the official opening of this school year. There was a stage where several people were speaking and every now and then there was some performance, like a dance, opera or a band. Unfortunately most of the time somebody was talking (in Chinese of course) and we couldn't really follow much. So we went back home.
At home I was watching a movie together with Alina, each being on the other side of the world. That is also what this photo is showing. Alina in Poland on the right-hand side of the photo and me in China on the other side.
