We arrived at Osprey Bay camping area in the Cape Range National Park on Friday the 29th of May. What a beautiful part of the world it is here. The Ningaloo Reef runs down the west side of the coastline here and the water is crystal clear. The beaches are wide and sandy and to make things even better the campground was clean and very well set out. We wasted no time in checking out the beach and getting good advice from the campground hosts. I thought I would try my luck at fishing again. I must have been in the right spot at the right time. After throwing my line in I got a big bite and began bringing in a fish. However just as he was about 3 meters from me a reef shark came out of the water and took him, just leaving me with the head. The bloke next to me couldn't believe it. In all his years fishing he said he'd never seen anything like it. I cast in again and straight away got another big bite. I began reeling this fish in when a reef shark took him and then proceeded out to deeper water. The fishing reel wound it's head off until "ping" and the line broke. Not to be beaten I went back to the van and got another fishing rod. About five minutes later I landed quite a good sized trevally.
The following day we were up early to have a good look around the Cape Range National Park. We started out with a hike to Mandu Mandu Gorge. A really nice place to hike and quite a pretty gorge. We then headed up the road to a place called Oyster Stacks. Oyster Stacks turned out to be an amazing snorkeling area. The current was quite strong so we just went out one at a time with the kids. We were all in awe of the coral reefs and the huge variety of fish we saw. It was a fantastic way to spend the morning. From Oyster Stacks we headed up to the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse. It has an great veiw from up there. From June to November you can view humpback whales. However the only thing we could see where oil rigs working the other side of the reef. We then headed a bit further south to Mauritius Beach. This is a nudist beach. Well when in Rome...........not many people about so we all went for a swim and a walk on the beach. We then went back to Osprey Bay via some great sand dunes, for a very late lunch. We spent the afternoon snorkeling and at the beach. In the evening we caught up with friends we have met along the way. It's great how you meet other families doing the big lap. You might not see them for a week and then all of a sudden your parked next to them at a caravan park. It's also great for the kids as they have other kids to play with.
