On the 26th my parents arrived in Bali from Dubai and we met them at a hotel in Jimbaran. We stayed there just for the night and I really enjoyed catching up with them and having a fantastic seafood dinner right on the beach.
The next afternoon we flew to Flores, another island further east in Indonesia. From the airport we took a boat to our hotel on an island right in the middle of Komodo National Park, a beautiful surrounded by coral reefs and tiny islands. We spent the next 4 days diving, snorkelling and relaxing in the sun. The highlight of the whole trip has to be snorkelling with 5-7 manta rays, the biggest being about 5m across! We also did a day trip to rincha island to see the Komodo dragon, a massive lizard which can get up to 3.5m long. After a 2 hour trek over the island we were all exhausted but had seen around 9 dragons, most of which we sunning themselves by the guards kitchen! We also did a boat trip to see the flying foxes take flight at dusk. They are one of the largest species of bats in the world and thousands upon thousands streamed past us as we sat on our boat enjoying a beer.
From Flores we flew to Lombok via Bali and met Danny on the way. My parents have rented a lovely villa where we have spent the last 5 days totally relaxing and catching up. The weather hasn't been great but we have managed to get to one of the gili islands for a dive where we saw loads of big sea turtles and even a sea snake. We have also really enjoyed using the 9m private pool! It's been lovely to see everyone and a bit surreal.
Tomorrow we fly back to Bali in the morning and have 2 days there before my parents leave. We then fly to Manilla on the 16th to begin our 3.5 weeks in the Philippines before heading to Dubai.
