On Sunday we left Yogyakarta at 8am to start our 2 day trip to Bali via Mount Bromo, an active volcano in Eastern Java. A short 13 hour minibus ride later and we arrived at our hotel, stocked up on water and hit the hay as it was a 3.30am start the next day.
Blurry eyed at 3.30am we got in the waiting jeep and started our ascent up the mountain to watch the sunrise over Bromo from a neighbouring mountain. At just before 5.20 the sun broke the mist up and illuminated the volcano beneath us, a beautiful sight and made the long trip well worth it.
We them bombed back down the mountain and the jeep dropped us at the bottom of Bromo and we trekked up the side of it all the way to the crater. Looking down into an active volcano with the smell of sulphur in the air, the sound of bubbling water and steam gushing out was truly amazing and once again made the long trip seem worth it. On the way back to the jeep we had a quick stop half way down the volcano for a coffee made by a woman who looked about 127 years old on her log fire and old battered kettle. We arrived back at the hotel for 8.30, had a quick breakfast and then began our 11 hour journey to Seminyak on Bali where we are meeting my parents tomorrow.
The journey was long and tiring and once again we crashed into bed when we finally got to the hotel. We have spent the last 2 days exploring and acting like we are in a proper holiday, relaxing in the pool, having a few beers and doing a bit of shopping.
Tomorrow we move hotels and mum and dad should be arriving around 6.30pm, just in time for dinner.

Pat Nelson Jonny & Sarah, Sorry it has taken so long to read your Blog. Dan the fellow who put in the new bowl in the bathroom came on Friday. No one phone me to say he was coming. We now have a small bowl, two holes on either side ,as the one they took out was much bigger.I said that they had to be filled in or new tiles put up. He said they were ringing the Battens to see what they wanted to do and would call me. There are holes on the floor as well. Kim has suggested that I put either a toilet mat around the bottom or get a rug to put down.I'll have to see what I'll do. It has been raining the last two days. Your mother said that you have had 3 earthquakes, just be carefull. Your journey to Bali seemed very tireing.Glad to know you have your Mum and Dad with you both.
