July 28th
I leave today for Rome on the night train. Its an overnight with bunks so I may actually get some sleep tonight. Maybe. Last night was my last night in Paris. Some friends from the hostel (Nina, Jake, Kate and Liana) all went down to la Tour Eiffel to go to the top. It took us 3.5 hours to get up and down again, mostly due to numerous painfully long lines. The overall experience was worth it thanks to two bottles of wine. We then made our way back to the hostel and stopped at a grocery stand to get some dinner. It was then 2am. No matter where I am or when Im going to bed, I seem to be unable to sleep in.
So, today I walked Montmartre one last time, went to see a few other areas that I had missed by Metro, and got some food for the train.
Later...
Good thing I left the hostel for the train station two hours before my train left. While on the Metro, they announced that the line I was on would be finished for the day at the next stop. I quickly asked two business men if there was another route to the train station and had to backtrack on a different line and then switch two more times. People dont take kindly to suitcases on crowded Metros. When I got the train station, it was supposed to be an easy print out from the electronic kiosk for my reserved ticket. No such luck. I went to go see a real person in the ticket booth and promptly got yelled at for using a reference code that was too long...but it was the only one I was given. Got my ticket though.

So much for thinking Id get sleep on the night train. I made friends with the staff and got to sit up in the first class food car and got fed lots of home made pasta chicken with peppers. Oh, and lots of wine. Its good to make friends with the locals. When I got off the train in Roma I went to the ticket line to book my ticket to Belvedere Marittimo tomorrow night. Night trains save money on hostels. In line, I saw a friend from Victoria. Next thing I knew, I was in line with them, staying at their hotel with them and am now hanging in Roma with them. I am very very tired, but having a blast.
Miss you all. Love and hugs.
