We've been doing a fair bit of driving down here...to and from lovely little villages and beaches. Dad has his Fiat camper, so we're well set up to just head out and see where the wind takes us. Or the tiny, itsy bitsy roads....full of swarming, stubborn cars, cyclists, scooters and buses. I call this phenomenon bumper cars. It's quite entertaining to sit back and watch as three cars stubbornly move into spaces that can obviously only handle one...subsequently creating a three way block that nobody wants to back down from. So they inch forward, to the side, anywhere but backwards. On occasion they take out another cars mirror, door, bumper etc. Dad himself has hit signs with his side view mirrors. There is no way to look at this other than a game. And, the larger the vehicle...the more power it holds. Smaller cars are forced to back down, maneuvering themselves into whatever nook is available to let the larger car pass. There are times, however, that said little cars still try to hold their position; at which point blue clad officials come out from seemingly nowhere, blowing their little whistles and happily inserting their authority into the situation. Really, it's very entertaining. Often, I can walk faster than the traffic in smaller towns.
Speaking of smaller towns...I have finally (finally!!) found wifi here in Belvedere. Strangely, it's not in a shop, an internet cafe, or even a hotel...no, this is braodcasted free from the centre of town. It's odd to sit on a curb, or under the train bridge, and check my emails...but whatever works. Sometimes I sit in a nearby cafe and order a cafe con ghiaccio and a brioche. Thanks for all your messages as I very much enjoy reading reading them in such an environment.
