A bright sunny day greets us with the birds in full song again. A+G by some groceries in the site shop then we set off for a walk.
An undulating, grassy track takes us a few hundred yards to the Bridgetown Cricket ground, voted by Wisden as the 'most picturesque cricket ground in England'. Standing with the river and trees behind us we look up the gentle slope across the manicured grass and mown wicket. The far side rises more steeply forming a natural seating area beside the pavillion of rough-timber with neatly thatched roof. Over the door a plaque reads 'Built 1924'. Even a cricket-phillistine like Nick can see the attraction of a summer afternoon here listening to 'leather-on-willow' while nibbling the odd cake.
Back on the main road the long layby is ideal to walk for exercise before heading back to our pitch for lunch of prawn salad rolls with a light summer cocktail drink.
The site has its own shop which Ali and Grete visit. They return with meat from the local butcher and scones and cream for afternoon tea, which goes with apple and strawberry jam made by Grete's sister.
More time spent up at the weir listening to birds, watching bright blue damsel flies and reading finishes the afternoon.
For dinner Grete cook the lamb chops bought today and they're delicious with mint picked from the site's complimentary herb garden.
Wine and chat flow freely into the evening.
