After a quiet morning typing up notes we head towards the nearby town of Sanary. It's a pretty walk past mock haciendas with bougainvillea and olive trees. The harbourside is really attractive with rows of Touloniers, the local small wooden fishing boats. They are between 20=30 feet long with a forward mounted rig similar to a arab dhow. All brightly painted with flags and pennants flying, some have information placards suggesting they are part of a regatta. The oldest is 111 years old and the newest placard is for one built in 1964. Further out are some real gin palaces and large sailing yachts.
We find a restaurant and each have a lovely meal, Nick and Ali have steak, Grete duck and Nick W Moules Mariniere. After lunch [around 15:00] a few spots of rain fall but not enough to wet us.
The harbour is a great place for 'people-watching' and as in most French towns on a Sunday afternoon the chic promenaders are out in force. But today first prize goes to the man walking home in his wetsuit, harpoon in hand and octopus dangling from his belt. There are also some surreal bronze sculptures of African people.
We make our way back to the site and take it easy until the evening then Ali and Grete go to the on-site restaurant and bring back a couple of pizzas for dinner.
Early night as tomorrow we head for the Riviera.
