Woken at stupid o'clock by a very noisy rooster who soon had competition from a lovely dawan chorus. We left the vents open last night and there was a strong smell of wild garlic from the woods behind us. All packed up and ready to leave this beautiful spot at 10:10 as we intend to head further south and have a drive of around 180 miles ahead.
Our route towards Tolouse includes many typically French roads; arrow straight with long avenues of trees. As we pass through towns many are holding Sunday flea markets. In one town we pass a Brocante [salvage market] where iron gates, statues, old furniture and a myriad of other items stand along the wall. We cross a large bridge overlooking a wide weir where the Garonne and Arguillon rivers meet. As we near Tolouse the countryside becomes much more industrial with cement or fertiliser factories power stations and large industrial estates. We run parallel to the Garonne and the canal, the wide plain carrying road, rail and autoroute all in sight of each other.
We stop for lunch in an aire before joining the Tolouse peripherique roads, but being Sunday the traffic was reasonably light.
South of Tolouse back on normal roads and the landscape became relatively flat, with wide plains rising and falling, with very strong crosswinds. The houses and buildings are mostly red clay brick with pantile rooves. As we approached our destination of Montolieu we see the Midi Pyrenees black and jagged on the horizon. Further evidence of our journey south is seeing cactus growing wild in the verges. We each the site at 16:20 and spend time making use of the site's facilities; chemical dump, water top-up, laundry and wi-fi
