Decided to make our base camp at Middle Lagoon following some good reports from some caravaners at Broome.
It's a nice bush camp with flushing toilets and hot showers right on the water with 2 bays/lagoons to swim at. The sunsets from the bay are great. Have been fishing a few times and have caught some Trevalli, bream and a parrot fish. I kept the bream and had fillets for breaky. Yum
The beaches north of Middle Lagoon are fantastic, you can drive right up to small beaches and you have the place to yourself for the day. Boys had fun on surf mats with Baillie kids while Sue and Amanda had a swim and Adrian and I fished down the beach.
Took a day and went up to Cape Leveque and had lunch at the Kooljaman Resort. Nice place with some nice beaches and camping right on the beach on the Eastern side. On the way up we dropped into Chile Creek and payed a visitor fee which got us access to the beach. We had the entire place to ourselves and enjoyed a swim and a relax under the shade of the car roof top awning as we could drive on the beach.
Went up to One Arm Point which was a beautiful coast line with interesting landscape and fast flowing tidal waters.
Headed back to Cape Leveque to watch a beautiful sunset on the beach with our bottle of Moet that we bought
from home 10000km ago. Going to have pizza at the Kooljaman Resort for dinner.
Another day and more swimming and fishing on our own beach a bit north of Middle Lagoon. Went fishing and got onto some large Longtoms. Huge fight and only managed to bring one in off the rocks which was about 700mm long and he snapped me off as I tried to lift him out of the water. The other 4 snapped me off before I could get them close. I needed you David!
Through the camp manager we were introduced to Yatim a 13 year old indigenous lad who took a couple of us mud crabbing. He was incredible at finding them and spearing them. We got 5 big ones in an hour and cooked them in the big camp oven on the fire. Yum, so sweet and fresh.
Visited Whale Song and enjoyed morning tea at the cafe. A very quaint little place on a beautiful beach.
Come through a big bushfire on the way back to Broome. Wasn't sure if we were going to be able to get through.
Arrived in Broome all safe and sound. 2 nights here then we make our way home.
