So 6am Yoga session was interesting...lots of BREATHING! Lots of sitting up straight and corssing legs. Learnt a lot though about how there are 3 bodies and how energy comes from within, to keep your mind clear will help concentration. The lady who taught us-Susie, is 70 this year, but she looks so young, about 45-50. She started yoga at 50, I think i'll have to start at 50 aswell! The yoga session went on a little longer, so we quickly had breakfast adn then down to the hotel basement again to pick up a phone from IndoGenius! It's a Karbonn branded prone, does everything an iphone does, but only at £60! It's manufactured in China, but designed and aimed at the Indian market. Hence why it is such a cheap and popular smartpone in India. We also got a Sim card, and will have training later on how to use the new app IndoGenius have been working on Then we got on the bus to the British Council, where we had an introduction to the programme and a very interesting talk on India and a new programme they are starting for British students to visit India again. It seems everyone is wanting to promote this relationship! Some very interesting questions and discussion, but you can see that Nick (Programme leader and manager of IndoGenius) doesn't like China, he did put a few ineresting faces about China, and I didn't realise how much debt and dinancial problems it had. But I suppose you see what they want you too see. That went on for a while and the indian man's slow monotone voice, combined with a little bit of Jet lag did make me fall asleep for a bit!
Pasta for lunch and back to the hotel, then a couple of us popped out to n-market and looked at Saari's, but they were so expensive (about £50-£70. This was at a special store called 'fab india' (http://www.fabindia.com/) who pay their staff a proper wage, all materials are traditionally made and sourced naturally. But i'm not spending that much on a saari!
Had a quick 30 min session later on how to work the IndoGenius app that we are testing out, before off onto the bus again to visit Humayun's Tomb. It was a really lovely beautiful place, but didn't have enough time to fully look around. And had LOTS of photos with local's who were delighted to see white british people!
Next off to a talk at the CSOI (Civil Service Officer Institute) with Mark Tully, who was the former BBC presented for India, and now does a radio show for BBC4. HE WAS INSPIRING! His passion for India was so obvious in the way he talked, he understands the country a lot better than some others. I might actually purchase on of his books. After that came back and had dinner late,
Early bed, as we have a 5am start tomorrow.
We've done so much I can't believe it's only day 2!
p.s. Didn't get to see Nick Clegg, but he didn't really talk much to any students, no photo's, and sounds like it was pretty boring!
