Seeing the sights in Singapore
A fleeting visit to Singapore, following our flight from Fiji, was humid (VERY!) but fun. We stayed outside the centre in Kovan as it was cheaper, easy to get to from the airport and this always makes you feel as though you've seen more than the tourist route. We ate all of our meals from hawkers (local neighbourhood food courts) for a pound a go and wandered around China town in the evening. Between our cheap and cheerful meals of curry, noodles and bananas we took the obligitory tourist visit to Raffles hotel to admire the colonial builings. Good job we'd been diligent with food as we blew our budget on a beer (not the customary Singapore Sling - a beer seemed far more refreshing) in the outside Raffles bar, under the fans.
We knew it would be far more humid here and it really did live up to that - I was completely bemused that locals can walk around in long sleeves and jeans and the elegent ladies appeared so fresh and beautiful.
After alot of deliberation we got up yesterday and decided to catch the train to Kuala Lumpur to continue our journey into Malaysia. A delicious curry for lunch set us up for the 7 hour train journey through lots of palm trees to Kuala Lumpur. We stayed in a very clean and nicely decorated guesthouse last night in Chinatown and are off to explore KL this afternoon.
