So we got back to Tokyo and had an afternoon, an evening and a morning to fill. The main thing we wanted to do was to go and have a decent Japanese meal - whilst trying to avoid more noodles and rice! We made a decision to follow a recommendation we had been given and to head to Ginza in the evening to Andy's Izakaya.
Before this we wanted to build up a bit of an appetite so we went to Ueno Park for more walking. This whole trip has been non-stop and I reckon we have walked close to 80 or 90 miles site seeing.
Once we got to Ginza we found Andy's! A great little place that is pretty small but filled with Japanese businessmen there for after work food and drinks. We spoke to the owner, Andy (an ex-pat), and he said that the same group had been going there, on the same night every year for the last 24 years to have their New Year party! We worked out what our money would get us and we ordered a mixed plate of tempura and some deep fried chicken - obviously a couple of beers to help wash it down!! The food was really good - the fish was so fresh and tender, straight from the fish market, it was lovely and the chicken was also great.
Today was our last day so we kept ourselves busy by having a lie in at the Khaosan Tokyo Ninja hostel (great name) and then headed to Yoyogi Park and to the Meiji Shrine where we saw a traditionally dressed wedding party parading through the main shrine. I therefore managed to complete the mission set by Liz of getting a photo of some traditionally dressed people. We strolled around some more before heading to the airport bound for Melbourne.
On a separate note - if you ever visit Japan you have to get a JR Pass - about £195 but so many different routes are then covered - ferries, bullet trains, subway etc - must have saved about £100 each in 7 days!
We're both looking forward to some sunshine now and to throw some shrimps on the barbie!!
