This morning we checked out of Cozy Bangkok and left our bags in storage while we headed back to our favourite Bangkok shopping centre, MBK. Our first stop was the post office where we planned to send a box full of souvenirs and things we've collected home. It turned out to be more of a courier service and we paid almost £60 for our box! We won't be posting anything else after that shocker… We were keen to try out the international food court again without having the dubious Thai buffet first! This time I went for a Mexican chimichanga, Laura had Nasi Goreng (our Indonesian favourite!) and Chris had a curry - all delicious! We had another wander around the indoor market stalls and Chris and I picked up more tshirts and vests, while Laura picked up another surprise present for someone back home…
We paid a visit to a coffee shop for some cake before heading to the mall next door so that Chris could pick up a book for the train journey. Outside, the streets were heaving with people, and we ended up having to walk back to MBK and it's taxi rank to get some transport back to the hotel. The rank is pretty well organised and we had no problem last time, but this time we managed to get stuck with a dodgy driver who, after we'd set off told us that his meter was asleep! We wanted a meter that was awake and working so told him to stop the car and we got out and waited by the side of the road until we could hail another, more honest, driver!
Back at the hotel, we collected our bags and headed to the station, which was crowded with people for our 7:30 train to Surat Thani. The train car we were in wasn't quite as nice as the one we had last time and we all had upper bunks which we slightly smaller, but it's still one of the best ways to travel on the cheap, saving us a nights accommodation and making the journey seem much faster than if we'd travelled during the day.
Looking forward to getting to Koh Phangan tomorrow!
