Match Maker, Match Maker… Yenta Extraordinaire, You just gotta love, A LOVE STORY!
Boothbay Harbor, Maine
"It is LOVE that holds everything together, and it is EVERYTHING also." Rumi, 13th century Persian Poet and Sufi Mystic
Well, here we are in beautiful Maine, Mid-Coast (defined as North of Portland, actually north of Brunswick and South of Bar Harbor). More specifically in spectacularly beautiful Spruce Point in Boothbay Harbor. We have our Motorhome stored/"tucked-in" for a week at a nearby Campground. We're staying with our good friends, The Pratts. Their home is truly spectacularly beautiful and Oceanfront. Our room comes complete with a panoramic water view and we are gently awaken every morning by the sounds of the Fisherman just off shore reeling in their Traps full of none other than, the "Real McCoy"—Maine Lobsters -what else!
We met Russ Pratt several years back when we all attended a weeklong Yoga Retreat at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Russ has a very interesting past! He's, you might say now on sabbatical, but as an attorney and designer/builder, he built, among other things, the first LEGAL and subsequently several Indian Casinos in the USA. We've kept in touch and have visited each other several times over the years. SO, here's the rest of the story…
Russ has been single for many years, but always secretly hoping to meet just the 'right lady.' Well, guess what… Laura had a really good single friend, Grace, who WAS living in Encinitas, Ca. Laura thought, and Gary agreed, Russ and Grace would be the 'perfect' match - one made in Heavenly Maine that is! So two years ago Laura, Yenta Extraordinaire (the matchmaker in Fiddler on the Roof), shared the proverbial photos with them. Then our Yenta "coerced" them to email each other… then, things started really heating up… more emails, texts, the hugely anticipated PHONE CALL/s… then AFTER 6 plus months of all this stuff, the BIG meeting day came a year ago, in Maine. And, after a few Bi-Coastal visits, Grace moves IN, and fast forward to this past Spring, they were married!! So this week we've been celebrating their joyous union and we are being treated like "royalty!! All this is very true, can YOU believe it!! And, the storybook continues… (Russ, BTW, does Laura get royalites for life…!?!)
Maine, what's there to do? Well, let me share just some of the things we have done: Maine Botanical Gardens, LL Bean (iconic outdoorsy department store), Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park, Farnsworth Museum and Wyeth Center, Mohegan Island (artist colony extraordinaire), Center For Furniture Craftsmanship (Gary's dream, classes in future), kayaking, hiking, cycling, oceanside walks, Camden, Rockport, plethora of incredible/wonderful craft-style homemade foods and drinks, scenery to 'live' for, and of course Lobsters, lobsters, everywhere!!
FAST, LAST & LOOSE…
GARY'S MOM living in Oceanside, Ca., 94 years young , just passed her Driver's test. Yes, really! In 5 years, at 99, she'll need retesting!!
NEW ENGLAND TOLL ROADS: seemingly never ending. When's enough enough?, sez me!
WASSAMKI SPRINGS CAMPGROUND, Freeport, Maine. Really nice and really clean. Nice crystal clear fresh water lake, warm water and we couldn't get in enough swimming!
KAYAKING MAINE COAST: Kayaking from the The Pratt's dock around the rocky point, negotiating the maze of lobster buoys, crystal blue water and light winds > our definition of a perfect day!! This was followed by a cool dip into the ocean > refreshing!
