It was time for our first dive!
After a much needed lie in, we geared up and headed to the longboat, before reaching our boat and sailing out to sea. Seasickness or anxiety hit me, and I was unsure about the dive. I soldiered on, and after a compulsory 2 laps around the boat swim, we were ready to dive.
I attempted the long stride water entry, screw going backwards! And we headed down the buoy line to the sea floor. Regulators in, it felt beyond bizarre to be breathing 6 foot under water. I panicked when I couldn't equalise (clear my blocked ears) and when a cleaner wrasse fish kept biting me! But we were soon swimming about effortlessly. Phew.
Our second dive was more challenging, having to perform our previously learnt skills such as partial mask flood and clear, and alternate air source. The latter consisted of taking you buddies alternate air source, removing your own, and placing your buddies in your mouth. I did this, and received no air. Under 10m of water, I was inhaling pure sea water and unable to breathe. Of corse, I freaked the hell out. Fortunately, our instructor was on hand to sort out my regulator, which I had stupidly placed in upside down! Soon, I was finally breathing, and we completed the skill.
We swam through the beautiful coral reefs, visiting and emerging myself into the marine world and swimming effortlessly with the fish. The instructor showed us how to click our fingers at the colourful Christmas tree worms, and they suddenly close within themselves. We also saw batfish, parrot fish and red breasted wrasse. It was amazing.
Sufficiently cream crackered, we grabbed an immensely huge curry, had a drink in a beach bar and watched yet another fire show, before bed at a reasonable hour before an early dive tomorrow!
