Today I left a very windy Vienna to head for Bratislava. Only 50 miles, by road, separate Vienna and Bratislava, making them the closest capital cities in the world.
However, before embarking I had an early lunch at the Wienerwald Restaurant in Stephanplatz. Here I enjoyed Cordon Bleu - a schnitzel stuffed with cheese and ham, accompanied by French Fries.
Once sated, I made my final metro journey on U1 to Südtiroer Platz, where Vienna's main bus and train stations are located.
I boarded the Regio Jet coach for the 90 minute journey to Bratislava. Regio Jet are a Czech based company and other destinations they serve in their distinctive yellow, and comfortable, coaches from Vienna are Prague, Budapest, Kraków and Rome.
The fare of just 4.90 Euros included a stewardess service with a free hot drink, free WiFi and sockets for charging devices - excellent value for money! The journey was trouble free and we arrived at the main Bratislava bus station a few minutes early.
Given how close they are, it's not surprising that Bratislava proved to be as windy as Vienna.
My apartment for the next 5 nights was just a short 20 min walk from the bus station. Situated on the top floor of a 10 storey high building on the edge of the old city, the views are stunning and uninterrupted, particularly across to Bratislava Castle, as can be seen in the accompanying photo.
Tesco is just across the road so I popped in there for a few supplies for tea. While there I spotted Wookey Hole Cheddar!
A relaxing evening followed.
