I slept really badly for some reason, despite being exhausted as the train was bumpy and cold. We finally arrived in Chiang Mai at 8:30 in the morning, thirteen hours later, and made our way to a taxi. Only 20 minutes later, we found our way to Baan Khun, our first dorm hostel. We went for a brief walk around, saw a temple, got some antibiotics for my painful wisdom tooth (it looked slightly infected) and then chilled at the hostel while Charlotte had a nap. When she awoke, Henry and Sam had arrived and asked if we could meet them at a bar 5 minutes walk away. Turns out it was pretty funky (although it was next door to a McDonalds) and was probably a drugs den as there were some super messed up murals on the walls. We enjoyed our Chang beers and gin and tonics on a rooftop terrace, looking out over the cool curt of Chiang Mai. When we got hungry. Sam recommended we go to a restaurant he had seen earlier on that day which turned out to be perfect. Although slightly more expensive (meals were approximately £5-6 rather than £3-4) I had the nicest Thai yellow curry and a watermelon shake.
Knowing we had an early start the next day, we then made our way back to our respective hostels to get some sleep before our 2 day trek the next day.
