Today is the 1st April. Oh my gosh, it's come round so fast, meaing it's our 7 month mark in 3 days!
April Fools day is big out here and we were witness to teachers being told that the Headmaster wanted to speak to them, only for them to come back from the office pranked. Or students telling one another a teacher wants to see them.
It was all very innocent pranks. They all really like to celebrate it.
We caught a boda into Kampala today instead of a matatou. Village drivers always seem to be nervous about doing it but accept the offer. Half way there our driver just stopped "Fuel is over!" Next thing he's blowing into the petrol tank and we seem to be moving on 02! Luckily a Petrol Station wasn't too far off and we made it. Then driving up Kampala Road he starts shaking whilst we're still moving. We don't know if he was cold, nervous or what but we directed him and somehow made it into town.
So this weekend is Easter, which is hugely celebrated like Christmas.
We had half a day at school today, with Monday off too.
I gave some chocolate out to the children in the compound, explaining that's what we do at Easter back home. They were very happy, well it was chocolate, Easter or not.
There's been a great atmosphere, with everyone looking foward to Sunday. It'll be interesting how they are all going to celebrate.
We're at Isabel and James house until Saturday, for a group gathering, discuss all we've been doing for the past 7 months.
Then Saturday we're going out for Robs 19th Birthday and then back home Sunday to paint the bedroom.
So this week has been a good one. My class are really getting to grips with English, explanations, rules, all these areas and it really makes me feel great when teachers are thanking me for the develop of children. My internal pride is really booming at the moment! :)
Writing lessons are now also speaking lessons. If the choldren aren't using English at home, then I really won't them to speak it well enough at school.
So we say many common phrases such as "Please Teacher may I come in?" or "Teacher I do not understand" It's going so very well, as they're speaking outside of the lesson. At it's the same with wriitng. I was worried they were only trying hard in my lessons but Madam Alisha and Vic have shown me books from other lessons and it's feels amazing to see.
I've uploaded some photos in My Primary 2 Class album, showing Muhamads improvement. He was very stubborn but with some positive reinforecement through stickers, he's always running up to me saying 'Good writing Madam yes" And we both put the thumbs up :)
Vic takes News News with Primary 2. You stand at the front of the class and say,
"My name is Emma and I live in Bukenga. When I was coming to school today I saw an old man on a bicycle"
Children say what they saw coming to school, with their imaginations running wild. Then draw these images in their books.
I've uploaded some photos of the wonderful, innocent pictures they've drawn.
Also Vic and me think little Martin in my class has a teacher crush on me :)
I'll walk over to him during a lesson and he's just wrote Emma half way through a sentence or he'll see me during News News. Vic said one lesson Israel asked how to spell Tr.Emma and Martin was straight to him spelling it out. It's cute :)
Away from school, we have a rat problem. A big one!
I don't mind little mice but to see this fat thing plod past me not even run I was in shock.
We put down a huge trap under the drawers, as that's we we saw it run only to find it moved when we came home! No joke, it seemed as though it has kicked it out the way and just walked by!! We can hear it at night going up and down the drawers, in the Health draw eating Paracetamol! Then pooing on our beds. Vic and me are not impressed!
We've put down many traps, although no luck yet. It's hard where to place them as they're so many holes in the wall and floor. I'll keep you updated :)
Wednesday I was just about to go to bathe when a kitten comes bouncing into the house. It was lovely! I'm a cat person, so I was very happy, although no-one else in the compound was, they feared it.
Regan came in and although he's seen cats before I don't think he's had the chance to be nice to one before. He loved the way it's tail curled around my arm. So I put it outside, only for Mr Omen trying to direct it to the Long Drop and Madam Carol running into her house screaming. It hide away in Madam Gertrudes clay fire, which luckily wasn't on!
I really wanted to keep it. It could of even helped with our rat problem but Jane said it belonged to the house opposite :( So I gave it back.
Vic and me made Custard on Monday. It was so good. We were feeling in a good mood so bought a little slice of cake each and made the custard. Yay :)
That leaves me to say Happy Easter from Uganda x
Lots and Lots of Love x x x
