Flight from Singapore to Dubai starts with 640am pickup on Sunday morning 14/6/15 in Mercedes limo from Stamford Hotel to Changi airport. Sad to say goodbye to Singapore after only 2 nights. Buy a nice pair of Hugo Boss sunnies at duty free. Leave Singapore with usual efficient manner of the country. Our Sunday will become a very long one as we chase the sun westward to Holland, it will be 16 hours before we see night again.
Mariska had the pleasure of sitting next to a bogan who came on to the plane wearing a surgical mask with regulation hoodie and trackie daks, ate 2 bags of lollies and did silent but deadly farts directed at Mariska, I did offer the window seat.
Dubai transit stopover this time to change planes. Had to go from Terminal A to Terminal B with train ride. Amazing landscape from the plane - deserts everywhere (kind of what Mars would look like when we eventually colonise). Amazing airport, opulence everywhere. Made me feel rather poor walking around the duty free mall.
Quick coffee and ice cream in the airport and then it was on to Holland. Felt like it would never end, chasing the sun. We both watched all the episodes of series 6 of Nurse Jackie - we got addicted from Boxsets on Foxtel.
Arrived in Schiphol at 730pm local time (by then our body clocks didn't know what day or time we were in). Emotional for Mariska - her first time in Holland, the country of her parents, their ashes in our bags.
Met by Rob and Yolande - the Raths'; and Magda and Sean - the Doofs'. All speaking double Dutch to me.
Staying with Rob and Yolande outside of Rotterdam, a place called Vlaa……… - trying to get the hang of the names. Went down the freeway with me in the "drivers" seat - except I'm not in Australia and they drive on the wrong side of the road. Really nice bike paths, will have to try them out.
Skies finally go dark at 10pm and already light at 5am. Perfect for early morning cycle if I was home.
Going to see some dykes and windmills.
