Similan Islands Tour - Day Two
We had the best sleep last night since we have been in Thailand. Chris woke up at 6am excited about our first dive while I didn't want to leave the bed. Chris asked me why I find it so hard to get up in the morning? If I don't have to get up for anything I will wake up early and jump out of bed knowing I can get back in whenever I like but if I know I have to get up for something then I want to savour every minute I have left with my bed lol!! So after spending the next few minutes saying goodbye with a few more cuddles I finally get up and grab some breakfast, then we go for our first dive briefing.
Sivan will be our instructor for the rest of our dives while on the tour. He talks us through the dive plan and shows us what we should expect to see. I try to take it all in but I still have my sleepy head on so I just nod a few times.
Sivan sends us down to get geared up. We get help from a couple of workers onboard. We didn't have to do anything for ourselves! They put all our equipment on for us, they helped us get dressed lol, they even put our fins on! It was strange for me, I was so used to doing everything while I was in my training, I like this service its great!
Ready to go we jumped in. "Hello legs!" As I splashed into the cool sea i felt my body suddenly become awake. Our first dive was at North Point at 7:40am. We went to thirty meters again which is pretty deep. I struggled a little at the beginning of the dive because there was a strong current at the bottom pushing towards us which meant I had to work harder to keep up. It didn't help that my fins are really stumpy compared to what I'm used to. We had our first diving argument, through hand signalling lol. It's so easy to get confused and take things the wrong way underwater. A bit like seeing a text message in the wrong context.
I hand signalled to Chris that I was feeling out of breath but I was ok to carry on. I thought he looked back at me really worried and signalled me to tell the instructor. He kept pointing at the instructor which made me think he was demanding me to tell him. From this I repeatedly signalled I was ok to Chris and not to bother telling the instructor. Suddenly the instructor stopped and told us to turn back because the current was too strong so there really was no need to tell him I was a little tired. I had it all wrong though. When I first signalled to Chris I was feeling out of breath but ok, what he actually said was ok and pointed to show me the instructor is turning around anyway. Then when I kept repeatedly signalling I was ok, Chris thought I was angry with him and that I thought he had told the instructor I was tired so needed to turn back!! We both laughed about it when we surfaced.
On this dive we saw big tuna, oriental sweet lips fish, a massive napoleon fish, unicorn fish, trumpet fish, scorpion fish, angel fish, big eyed snapper and loads of different NEMO fish (clown fish)!
Before our second dive we had a proper big breakfast and time to chill out. I decided not to sunbath this time, instead we both went back to our bed and air con.
The second dive was at Christmas Point at 11am. We were all geared up and ready to jump in, waiting for the bell to ring to signal it was safe to jump in. It was like lemmings jumping off a cliff according to Chris lol. Just as I jumped in Chris's mask snapped so we had to wait in the water until he was given a replacement. Once he was sorted we began our decent to twenty seven meters. We were taken through some more swim throughs, Colin almost got stuck in one of them which was funny to watch from behind and Chris done a cool trick by taking out his regulator and breathing some air that was caught under a big rock.
We saw a giant barracuda, tuna, snapper fish, shrimps, trevally fish, cleaner shrimps, plus all the other stuff. We still haven't spotted any big guys but we did see a turtle on the surface of the water.
The third dive was at Breakfast Bend at 2pm. We went down to 26 meters and saw loads of garden eels and brightly coloured slugs and finally a black tip reef shark! We think it was about three meters in length.
Our last dive was at Turtle Rock and at night! The dive was so much better than the night dive we did in Koh Tao, there was more space, more life and the current was just right. Plant life and sea creatures were out that aren't during the day, plankton was sparkling in the water and the fish we saw during the day were sleeping in caves and crevices.
We saw loads of lion fish, a big blue octopus, a large cuttlefish, sea snake, a scorpion fish, coral crabs, lobsters, large puffer fish and a bunch of other stuff!
We've had a busy day today and both feeling tired so are going to have some dinner and go straight to bed.

P This is wonderful stuff, Charlotte! (Christmas Point & Breakfast Bend? – Lol) You saw a black tip reef shark! I saw them when I was in the Maldives. Only difference was I wasn’t in the water with them! Weren’t you scared?
Charlotte Lol no, we raced after it to get a closer look! Besides Chris would make a more filling meal so as long as I stick with him il be fine :-D
