Time for a little blogging catch up.
We're sitting on a coach right now heading down to Phuket. The journey from bangkok should take us roughly twelve hours, its only been two so far and already things have gone wrong. The coach has stopped at the side of a busy main road with not much around. A couple of people get off to stretch their legs and investigate while Chris takes this as an opportunity to get off and have a piss and fart.
Chris has returned now. The reason we have stopped is because of a burst tyre. Typical.
So let me tell you about our time in kanchanaburi yesterday while we wait for the tyre to be changed. Well before we got there on the 21st, we learned a lesson we were already warned about. Thai time doesn't run in the same way as any other time. Everything runs about two hours late. We booked our bus for 10am and in true Chris style we got there at least 10 minutes early. The friendly lady boy working at the travel centre advised us the bus would be about 10 minutes late. Apparently some other tourists being picked up in the road around the corner had over slept. No problem we went and bought a drink.
Bear in mind we had been awake since 2am. For some reason we just woke up feeling really fresh and couldn't get back to sleep. So after two hours we gave up and went out for a really early breakfast. There were still people out drinking!
When we came back to the travel centre the lady boy smiled and said they are on their way now. Another 10 minutes went by and then another. The lady boy advised us then to go and get some breakfast, that the bus would be at least 20 minutes now. So we went for our second breakfast at a really cheap looking place. When we returned the bus still had not arrived yet. We were beginning to get annoyed by now but waited patiently. After waiting over an hour we were escorted to our bus. There wasn't anybody else on it so the lady boy made that excuse up. Never mind we had a whole bus to ourselves for the next two hours. So we thought. We drove a couple of roads down and picked up one local Thai lady. She insisted Chris move his rucksack so she could sit in that seat next to him. We looked around the bus confused. Why not sit in any of the other empty seats? Then we realised his bag was on another bag wrapped up tight which belonged to the lady so he moved it. Once she was settled some more Thai's got on. We realised then we weren't going anywhere until the whole bus was full. In the end we didn't get on our way until 12pm and arrived into Kanchanaburi at about 2pm.
Ooh Chris has just got back on the coach with chocolate goodies :-)
Anyway we got dropped off in the
town and checked into the first guest house we came across, Noble night guest house, It was a really nice one! We only wanted a room with plug sockets so we could charge the iPad etc. But we had air con, a fan, TV, hot shower and free wifi! And there was a pool, all for £12 a night. Oh and the windows were blacked out so we walked around naked most of the time.
We planned to visit the Tiger Temple where we hoped to cuddle a tiger. But after reading up on some bad reviews and watching a video on YouTube we decided not to. The video clearly showed the cats chained down and stressed out. It was too upsetting. Neither of us want to support animal cruelty so decided that we would rather see the animals in the wild or in an inclosure where we know the animals are looked after properly.
So for the rest of the day we went for lunch and visited the local night market. We didn't find anything worth buying so went to the smoothie stall instead. There was a dog sleeping directly in front of the stall. Chris tapped the dog with his foot which made the dog jump up in a flash. Everyone looked at us funny. I told Chris off and said leave the poor dog alone. Once we paid for our smoothies I showed off my new Thai language and thanked them. As we turned around I kicked the dog straight in the head which made it jump up and growl at me! I felt so bad and embarrassed. Chris just laughed hysterically at me as we left lol.
When we got back to the guest house we booked ourselves on to a busy full day tour for the next day and went to bed early.
The next day we got up early for our tour beginning at 8am. Surprisingly the bus was on time. We got chatting to a young guy named Joe on the bus who was also staying at our guest house. He had been travelling around India on
his own and was now continuing his trip around Thailand. Joe was a nice lad and only 21. Joe told us about his experience in India and highly recommended we go. We might decide to add India to the end of our trip now. But we will see.
On the tour we visited Erawan Waterfalls which were beautiful. The water was filled with fish from the size of my little finger to my forearm. What we didn't know is that these fish love to eat the dead skin off your body. It was so funny, they really tickled. The fish rushed over to us everyime we stopped moving. If you have ever had your feet sucked on by fish in a beauty salon, then imagine that feeling but ten times worse lol. People were paying for this back in town but we were getting it for free!
We also learned about the Hell Fire Pass section of the Burma to Thailand railway built by the POWS which was shocking and upsetting, got to ride on the train that still uses part of that track and visited the Bridge on the River Kwai.
When we got back, we went for a dip in the pool, dinner then out for a few drinks. Joe came along with us too. We played a few rounds of pool and tried strawberry shisha tobacco which neither of us liked very much. Before we knew it it was 1:30am and the woman in the bar didn't charge us for four large beers, result! We had a bus booked for 8:20am so grabbed some cheese toasties and went to bed. But on our way into our room I was horrified to find out that our room windows weren't blacked out at all! Oh my god I flashed and jiggled my boobies at a Thai woman earlier hahaha! Oops!
Again in Thai fashion the bus was late. It picked us up at 9am and drove to the local bus station. We didn't leave until the bus was full with local Thai's and one American heading back to Bangkok. Twenty minutes later we were on the move again.
When we got back to Bangkok we were feeling hot and tired and were dreaming of the beaches in Phuket. We thought sod staying another night, we went and booked the sleeper coach for the same day. We had six and a half hours to kill so went SHOPPING! It was great (for me), the markets had so many nice clothes yet we found it hard to find something to buy. In the end I got a new bikini and dress and Chris found a belt that actually fitted him lol. The Thai's found it funny every time a belt wouldn't go around him lol.
The coach came on time which was great. Within minutes we were both a sleep. An hour in the guy in front of Chris decides to extend his seat right back and hits Chris in the knees. The guy didn't even look around to check first. Poor Chris was all dazed. I wasn't happy about this so we swapped seats to give Chris more leg space. The coach was very wobbly so it was hard for me not to clumbersley knock into the guys wife sleeping and hit down hard and shake his seat as I forced my way in ;-) a*******. Thats what he gets for waking my man up.
Oh good the coach is on the move again. It has only taken an hour to change the tyre. Time to get some more shut eye and hopefully a smooth journey now.
Hold on wait a minute, the coach has just pulled into a garage to get the tyre they have just put on changed and a new spare! Another half hour wasted.
I look forward to the hundreds of bites adding to the six I have already on my legs in the morning.
Night night for now.
