Chris slept until 11am this morning, he was shattered! He woke up to find me awake before him which doesn't happen very often. I couldn't sleep any longer though, I was too excited to be in Bali! So here we are, with no clue as to where to go or what to do. We started by having a late breakfast then about an hour later we went out for lunch! It was buy one get one free on cocktails in the restaurant we were in, after looking online for a couple of hours trying to figure out where to go we decided to try out a cocktail or two, but that turned into working our way down the list! We sat there drinking for a few hours, then I started to feel really tipsy so we slowed down. A few people we have met on our trip advised us not to go to Kuta, they said it was loud and basically the Ibiza for Aussies. Well, I LOVE Ibiza so maybe I'll really like it here. I already did so far from looking down the street and watching people as they walk by. It kind of reminded me of a bar street in Greece though and Chris thought the same. The heat from the day and the mix of cocktails got us in the mood to have a good drink tonight, only problem was I still didn't have anything really nice to go out in, I was fed up with wearing shorts, vests and the same silky dress and I really wanted to dress up this time. So we went shopping!!! Kuta is also well known for its wonderful clothes shops, selling anything from homeless looking hippy wear to very cute cocktail dresses. I dragged Chris into only a 'number' of shops before finally going back to the one we started in. To our surprise the clothes were really cheap and seemed good quality, I would loved to have bought the whole shop if I could! I tried on a few dresses then decided on my favourite, a gorgeous little black dress for only 250,000 rupees :-) I was extremely happy and couldn't wait to go out tonight, the only other thing missing were a nice pair of high heels but it was unpractical to buy them, plus I'll probably need a week to practise walking in heels again after being in flats for six months!
It was still quite early to go out and the heat from the day mixed with the cocktails and shopping made us both feel sleepy. We went back to our room and set an alarm for 8pm so we could have a little two hour sleep before going out tonight. But we were either completely knocked out or the alarm didn't go off, we didn't wake up until 10pm! We got ready as fast as we could and made it out by 11pm, first we went for some food then onto a couple of bars for drinking. A lot of the bars were quite expensive and Chris really didn't fancy going into a club. We watched skimpy podium dancers perform from across the street in one club. Drunk Aussies were everywhere but Kuta isn't anything like Ibiza! It's just a lively bar street with loud music. Locals were out too, we went to our final bar where a live band were playing, they were quite good and the drinks were buy one get one free. One of the locals came up to chat to us, we'll he was more like slurring! We didn't understand a thing he said so we just kept smiling and nodding because that's what he was doing. He offered us a shot each from a bottle of his own. I wasn't sure at first but the guy was drinking it himself so it had to be ok. Still, I only had one shot but Chris had about five! The guy had very long black hair and looked a bit like an Indian from a cowboy movie. He kept hugging Chris and wouldn't leave until he had finally finished all of his mysterious alcoholic concoction. By then the band had stopped and the lights suddenly went out. We thought it was a power failure at first but then the staff ushered us outside then just disappeared! We checked the time and it was only 3am. We finished our drinks in the dark then started down the street, it was like a ghost town compared to earlier, there was no one out and even the clubs were silent, we didn't even see a drunk person waddling back, except for each other of course. It was a good night despite only being out for a short time. We're not looking forward to the hangover in the morning!
