So the weekend was literally just photo editing…but had to basically redo everything as for SOME strange reason ALL my photos disappeared… yep.GONE. From the entire month.
I seriously wanted to cry.
Even Sean-who knows his stuff with computers-couldn't fix it…
They are there apparently-you just cant access them which doesn't help…
So managed to recover some of them but all mixed up and messed up so ye ARGH.
Anyway, enough about that.
I travelled up to Maputo on Monday (after doing the crazy food shopping with Nana in Mtuba; that's a LOT of food!) with these two guys who apparently know my dad/aunt.
I didn't care-it saved me a lot of time/hassle; whats the worse that could happen right?!
I arrived at the backpackers Fatimas and felt quite alone… :S
But hey-just one night there and went to bed super early as only had about 1 hour sleep the previous night due to photo issues (if you can count being curled up in a ball, still in your dress, on the couch-sleep..?!).
Woke up early and set off in the crazy shuttle bus with about 14 other backpackers up to Tofo.
WOW. Seriously felt like the longest bus ride EVER (well it was about 10 hours…), but finally arrived. Just had to walk 5 minutes (with all my stuff in the crazy heat on the sand…) and arrived.
For them to tell me once again they had no idea I was coming…ye..it happens right?!
But soon sorted and taken to my crazy house for this month-a grass type hut bedroom thingy and the toilet/shower is pretty close by so its all good. I could unpack my stuff, had a bed and mosquitoe net, so I'm good! I actually really love it!!
Was introduced to everyone on the team and they are all super nice so should be good!
But all like researchers/phd people so feel a little out of my depth…
Hopefully will get there!
The two guys took me to where we have our staff meals at the restaurant and I got introduced to a few people and we sat and watched a bit of a movie on the TV in their which was cool. Everyone does seem really nice and I'm super excited about the work!
Anyway, Wednesday (my first day on the project) was spent in front of a computer all day but I totally didn't mind as it was doing essential updating of databases with regards to 'presence absence data' for manta rays and whale sharks over the last several years .It was really interesting as the decline in numbers is actually quite shocking! That evening there was a Whale Shark talk by Dr Simon Pierce (one of the researchers on the project) and it was really interesting! I'm even more excited to get diving and helping with the research!
Thursday we were meant to be going diving but unfortunately I kind of held everyone back a little as I am only Open Water qualified and the dives are much deeper. So..we should be going tomorrow! I will sit out on one (but hey, its not all bad-will be sitting with the Calvin Klein type model skipper! :P that's how Andrea described him! lol) and then will do the second dive which will be shallower. Hopefully next week I will do my Advanced Course and then will be all good!
I've also been working on this volunteer project outline thingy which should hopefully go up on the website so I will post the link when it does and you can see the first bit of work I've done! J
Anyway today I MUST go and take photos as haven't had my camera out since Monday! And need to go for a swim as didn't go yesterday into the sea either! :S
