We left our sand dune beach location this morning, stopping at the blow holes, but there was no swell and no 'blow'. So lucky we got to see them blowing yesterday afternoon.
We drove back into Carnarvon and went to visit the OTC Satellite Earth Station and the Space and Technology Museum. The satellite station was established in the 60s to help with communications for the Apollo Moon Project.
Inside we got to climb inside a full size replica of Apollo 11, lie on our backs with legs up inside the tiny space, shut the door, and with try help of anTV screen above us, experience take off to the moon. We then explored the rest of the exhibits, marveling at what is now ancient communications technology that actually did help put the first man on the moon.
After an hour or so in the museum we left Carnarvon after filling fuel and water.
There are signs up in town warning that for the next 400km or so south there is very limited town water.
Then we drove south to stay a few days at Wooramel Station not too far from Shark Bay. This is a working sheep and cattle station of around 450,000 acres in size (or around 1430 square kilometers including 60km of beach front. The property sits on the huge Wooramel River, which is dry but flows 2-4 times a year. This is actually an upside down river with the water flowing deep beneath the surface, providing good flood plains for livestock. Three bores have been drilled on the property, bringing mineral-rich artesian water up 240 metres via natural pressure to hot water pools that remain at a constant (and soothing) 33 degrees.
We decided to stay here the next few days and enjoy the hot water as heavy rain is predicted and there is no point being on the beach.
We picked a spot to camp on the dry river edge with lots of beautiful large ghost gums around us. A few other caravanners were nearby.
We enjoyed a soak in the hot tub as the rain began to softly fall, with a lovely glass of Victorian Muscat, followed by a beautiful warm artesian shower and headed back to our little home on wheels to BBQ dinner and settle in for the night.
Night night xx
