Day 66 - Wednesday March 20, 2024, Taipei (Keelung) Taiwan
Arrival: 08:00 All Aboard: 18:30 Departure: 19:00
We arrive at the port city of Keelung. It is the located on the northern coastline and is the port city for Taipei and New Taipei City.
The municipality of Taipei including Keelung is roughly 2.5 million people, however; considering New Taipei City then the population grows to over 7 million people. The population of the entire country is nearing 24 million people.
Taiwan (Republic of China) is located about 160 km off the Southeast coast of the continent of Asia, at the western edge of the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the Philippines.
Most of the population practice Buddhism.
A ship tour - "Taipei through the eyes of a Local" was booked. The first stop was a 50-minute bicycle ride along the Keelung River. It was a nice leisurely ride. Once we reached 25 minutes then it was time to return.
The second stop was to the Noodle cuisine restaurant (sorry the name was in Chinese). Here we were treated to a dish of seaweed, two types of bean curds, pork ear and tofu. Sorry neither of us were venturous to try some. The main dish was beef soup with noodles and pieces of beef. The noodles were not gluten free, so Janice asked for a dish of pork and rice.
What we saw a lot of was 7 Eleven store on every other corner. We were looking for egg salad sandwich but most of the sandwiches included crab.
Finishing lunch, it was off to the Nanmen Market. This is an upscale local market. I did not want to spend time here, so it was off to the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial which was not far from the market. There was no time to explore fully so a quick photo op then back to the bus to the final stop.
Longshan Temple was the last stop across from the Longshan Temple metro station. Here we saw the locals praying to different faiths including Taoist, Buddhism and Confucian.
It was nice to connect with a cousin, Michael through Messenger. It had been a very long time since we had seen one another.
We are now on the way to Japan, Kagoshima 630 nautical miles away. Oh boy another sea day, time to catch up and maybe start our income taxes.

Michael Glad you enjoyed Taiwan. It was great to speak with you both. Just a shame circumstances meant we couldn’t meet up.

The only thing I can say for certain is bring lots of money if you come here 1 cayman dollar costs 1.63 Cdn. The resort is beautiful right on the ocean.
