Day 4 Luang Prabang.
Day 4 dawned hazy and hot (isn't it always here). Apparently the haziness is typical for this time of year as local farmers 'slash and burn' their fields after harvest.
The day started early at 5.30am when we watched a procession of 200 brightly orange robed monks collecting alms for themselves although in reality most is distributed onward to the poor.
Then we had a quick tour of our first (of many) temple, followed by a tour of a local market, before returning to our hotel for breakfast, which was standard continental offerings although there also was a warm rice soup.
Only 45 minutes allowed for breakfast before we hit the road starting with a climb up Mount Phousi before it got hot. Apparently at 30 degrees at 8am it hasn't yet got hot so we are relying on our guide to tell us when it is officially hot.
After M Phousi we descend to tour the Royal Palace where the last king lived before the revolution kicked him out in 1976. Nobody knows what happened to the royal family apparently (yeah right!).
Onward to another 2 temples (excuse me if I can't remember/pronounce their names) before a visit to the ethnic museum where many antiquated clothes are displayed. Unfortunately it was closed on a Monday! However we weren't too worried as we were getting tired by now and besides if I want to see a bunch of old clothes I only need to open my wardrobe.
Still time however to visit a silk weaving village where they also make paper, before we were dropped off for lunch at a cafe alongside the Mekong river. We then returned to our hotel where we fell asleep for 2 hours.
Unfortunately it was officially hot during this period so we missed it. Never mind we will try and stay awake tomorrow for the officially hot part of the day!.
