I love New York. I love New York. I love New York.
Yea we had a pretty ok time in the big apple.... It was INCREDIBLE!
Its always been a dream of mine to go and it didn't disappoint.
We stayed in a Greek neighbourhood called Astoria in queens with a friend of a friend. It was a lovely place a short subway ride from Manhattan. One evening on our way home we were drawn into this Greek street party/fundraiser for the local church. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic, lots of music and dancing.
Manhattan itself has so much to offer, there was always something going on.
We did all the tourist spots, Times Square, Liberty Island, 5th Avenue, Central Park, 42nd street and ground zero.
The statue of liberty is a lot bigger in reality than what we see in the movies, really quite impressive.
We also checked out the high line, a place recommended to us by a few friends. It's basically a man made urban park set on an old railway line above the city, really funky. Artists display their work and people sell organic things. Food mainly. It sounds a bit w***y now, but it was cool I promise.
The 4th of July came and we decided to view the fireworks from the top of the Rockafella building. We were 70 floors up and the elevator felt like a rocket launch, my ears actually popped. We took in the amazing views of the skyline including the Empire state building directly opposite and waited for the sunset.....
After about an hour we got a bit bored of waiting and decided as nice as fireworks are they weren't really worth standing around for another 3hrs for, so we left.
And what a good decision that was. A few minutes later we were waiting in line at the Radio City Music Hall for tickets to Cirque du Soleil. Nic and I had desperately wanted to see a show in Vegas but the tickets were way to expensive. So you can imagine our delight when these last minute seats were going for 50 dollars a pop, to good to refuse.
Wow!! We both sat there in awe for 90minutes. The performers were incredibly skilled and brave. It truly was a feast for the eyes. Elaborate costumes and sets, death defiling stunts and beautiful music. 5 stars!!!!
The following day we made the most of the beautiful sunshine and headed for Central Park. A friend of mine who I hadn't seen since 2008 when she left for the states was meeting us there, along with some other friends for a picnic and a catch up.
As we bathed in the sun amongst the hussle and bussle of the city I really felt I could live in this place, I'm sorry London but New York wins!!!
It was lovely to see Danielle and meet her hubby Jonathan, let's not leave it so long next time!!
Before we knew it our time was up. I was deverstated!
So with a heavy heart and a brewing panic attack we packed AGAIN. This time for our final stop :( booooooooo
Miami beach here we come. Can't go home pasty now can we. Oh, Nic's just checked the weather for the week, thunder storms and rain, fabulous!
Peace and wellie boots
