We arrived in Australia on friday and have been doing lots of exciting things since we arrived!
We didn't do much on the friday as we were pretty tired coz we had been flying for about 10 hours from Singapore to Australia. When we arrived we got to the hostel, which was very nice, then we went to a tourist information shop to get things booked up. Everyone is so friendly here! We then walked to the Lagoon and chilled out sitting with our feet in the water :)
On Saturday we woke up early to get to the lagoon as we were going on a boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We got on the boat and went for an hour, both of us felt very sea sick which was a bit unusual but it soon settled! We went snorkelling at the first reef, a guide took us as it was our first time and he showed us nemo fish, giant clams (which were huge! I dived down and stroked one, it was really slimy!) and sea cucumbers! Then we got back on the boot for lunch, which was lots of bbq sausages and steaks! After lunch we went and sat on the top deck enjoying the sun, we went on to another reef, were we got off the boat again and went snorkelling. We went on our own this time and saw loads!! was just amazing to float on the top of the water watching everything getting on with their lives around you! took lots of pictures which hopefully we will be able to get uploaded soon! On the way back to Cairns we enjoyed Elvis (one of the crew) singing songs and making jokes. Was an amazing day!!
On Sunday we got up early again, this time we were picked up from the hostel by an oz experience bus. This then took us to the rainforest, we stopped at Josephine falls first were we climbed over loads of rocks and then into the water at the bottom, we then climbed up some more and slid down on the natural rock slide! it was so much fun! after this waterfalls we drove to another one called Mongali where we had lunch. While we were here it started raining really heavily but sounded pretty cool on the roof of where we sitting!
After lunch we went to Millaa Millaa falls, which is wehre a Timotei advert was filmed and some of Peter Andre's Mysterious girl video! We went swimming here as well but it was freezing so didnt stay in too long!! Then we went to Lake Eacham, which is a large volcanic lake, it was 65m deep!! This was warmer than the last waterfalls so we stayed in ages! We had two more stops left, the first was the Curtain Fig tree which was huge, it was a strangling fig that had fallen over but carried on growing, it looked like it should be in Avatar it was so weird!! When we were on the way back to the bus we saw a MAHOOSIVE spider called a golden orb spider (google the name for a pic, they are huge!) it was prety cool tho! We also saw a little possum hiding up a tree which was realy cute!
The last stop was a Platypus viewing area, we didnt see any at first then our driver took us further a long the river and we saw one! it was really little but really cute!!
This morning we left Cairns to get the bus down to Mission Beach, where we are now. Along the way we stopped off at the Babinda Boulders and had a bbq breakfast and went for a walk to see the rapids which was prety impressive!
After that we stopped off at the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm which was really cool! We both held a bearded dragon, a snake, a baby crocodile, a dingo puppy (which was sooo cute!) had a parrot on our shoulders and fed the kangaroos! We even saw a kangaroo with its little joey in its pouch which was realy cute! We went on a tour with a guide who was feeding the crocodiles and making them jump up for the food which was prety cool to see, some of them were really big crocs!
At the hostel in mission Beach now, have been for a walk to Woolworths (which is a supermarket over here!) to get food for the next few days to keep us going, fruit and noodles are the way forwards! Gonna chill out on the beach tomoro then heading a bit further down the coast to get to Townsville where we are getting a ferry over to Magnetic Island till saturday! Going snorkeling again so hopefully will see some turtles! :)
Hope everyone is ok at home :)
Lots of love
Zoe and Cat
